Support the IMO carbon reduction goal of reducing the carbon intensity of international shipping by at least 40% by 2030

BASF’s OASE® blue technology contributes to sustainability and cost savings in the capture of carbon dioxide from flue gas

Samsung Heavy Industries will evaluate the feasibility of installing gas treatment technology on marine vessels

On September 13, 2022, BASF and Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Samsung Heavy Industries) will apply BASF’s flue gas OASE®
blue processing technology to jointly carry out a feasibility assessment of carbon capture for marine vessels. At Gastech 2022 in Milan, Italy, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on “Carbon Capture and Storage” (OCCS) technology.

The collaboration involves shipping research and the engineering and construction of carbon capture devices. BASF will provide expertise in the field of floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG), as well as commercially proven OASE
Compared with traditional technology, blue process technology can save a lot of energy and contribute to sustainable development. Samsung Heavy Industries will evaluate the feasibility of retrofitting gas treatment technology on marine vessels. This cooperation is in line with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) strategy to reduce the carbon intensity of international shipping by at least 40% by 2030.

Vasilios, Senior Vice President of BASF’s Asia Pacific Intermediates Business Unit
Galanos) said: “With the cutting-edge OASE technology, we are pleased to strengthen cooperation with Samsung Heavy Industries to support it to ride the wind and waves under the increasingly stringent carbon emission regulations. We will join hands with our partners to sail towards a green future.”

Youngkyu, Head of Sales Engineering, Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries
“Through the partnership with BASF, Samsung Heavy Industries has developed an efficient carbon capture system for ships, which will help to gain a competitive advantage in the low-carbon shipping market,” Ahn said.

Lawrence Luo, Technical Director of OASE® Gas Treatment Process, Intermediates Business Unit, BASF Asia Pacific
Loe) added: “As one of BASF’s ‘Beyond’ solutions, the OASE family of technologies is tailored to help customers achieve their sustainability goals. In this special case, we combine our knowledge in the field of CO2 capture and transfer research. and experience to provide a unique solution for marine carbon capture.”

BASF’s superior products make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the value chain. BASF regularly reassesses its product portfolio in order to assess the sustainable performance of its products and to identify superior solutions.

Held in Milan, Italy from September 5 to 8, 2022, Gastech is one of the world’s largest exhibitions in this field, bringing together natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low-carbon solutions and climate-related technologies. one.
