The latest data from the General Administration of Customs shows that in May 2022, China imported 5.089 million tons of thermal coal (including bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal, but excluding lignite, the same below), a year-on-year decrease of 45.62% and a month-on-month decrease of 25.42%. From January to May 2022, the total imported thermal coal was 29.725 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 36.95%. In May 2022, China imported 9.991 million tons of lignite, a year-on-year increase of 33.18% and a month-on-month decrease of 15.85%. From January to May 2022, the total imported lignite was 41.666 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.79%.
